Baptized Catholic children should plan to receive their First Eucharist and Confirmation the year after they make their First Confession. The Sacrament of Reconciliation, which is not a Sacrament of Initiation but a Sacrament of Healing, is celebrated in 2nd Grade. The Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation, two of the three Sacraments of Initiation (after Baptism), are celebrated at the same Mass in the 3rd Grade.
As your child prepares for the sacraments we encourage families to be fully practicing their Catholic faith: weekly Mass attendance and participation in community events. To help make things more convenient, we are now teaching our Sacramental Prep classes during Family Formation.

The Sacrament of Eucharist is a Sacrament of Initiation. The other two Sacraments of Initiation are Baptism and Confirmation.
In the Rite of Confirmation, the Bishop (or a Priest who represents the Bishop) extends his hands over you and asks the Holy Spirit to come to you with seven special graces, or gifts: wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, fortitude, piety and fear of the Lord (aka reverence).
Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence, they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” – CCC 1285
